15 Years of My Best Work
Fifteen years ago, when I was working as Sales Director for the Disney Institute, I took a leap of faith. I quit my job, cashed in my 401K, took out a line of credit on the house, and turned downed four lucrative job offers to become a full-time, professional speaker.
It was the best decision I ever made, but it wasn’t all roses in the beginning.
One day I looked with horror at my future bookings for speaking engagements and saw that for a solid 30-day period, there were none. The calendar was empty! And there were only drips of business in the coming months.
I crossed and uncrossed my fingers a lot. I found myself opening and shutting the refrigerator door even more. Yet it wasn’t food I was hungry for. My stomach wasn’t what was empty; it was my soul. I was literally stuck in neutral, going nowhere fast.
I thought about what brought me from the ghetto of Buffalo, New York, up the ranks at Disney, and into my own business to begin with.
Here’s what I realized: speaking is the new marketing.
In a world of algorithms, automation, and autonomous cars, it’s imperative to stand head and shoulders above the noise by presenting your thought leadership and your point of view.
I got laser-focused. I focused on being a truly brilliant presenter: in writing, on stage, and online. I stopped driving in circles or in many directions all at once. As a direct result of my shifting, my company has grown and impacted a greater number of clients and a wider reading audience
I am now able to dedicate my time to pouring my learning and experience into others all over the world, and I have loved absolutely every single moment of it.
Over the last 15 years, I’ve presented to over 1600 companies in 45 countries. I’ve worked with Microsoft, Cisco, Google, Toyota, and the list goes on. Every time I go to one of theseorganizations, I learn something new about their culture and their cultural needs, and I get better at what I do.
What is so amazing about this experience is that, 40 years later, is that I now get to share the insights that I have gained through trial and error, through failure--and through experiencing tremendous success.
I get your questions about presenting and requests for mentorship all the time, and I finally found a way to teach you everything I know.
I created a program to equip you with specific tools and techniques that will show you how to use YOUR voice, your brilliance, your stories, and your skills, to present your brand in a fresh new way so that you can impact, inspire, and influence any audience.
- Are you a person who is looking to get ahead in your organization?
- Are you an entrepreneur who has or wants to have a new startup?
- Do you want to get more involved in your community or apply for the board of an organization or cause you care about?
If you answered yes (or maybe) to any of those questions, you'll want to pay attention to this. For the next week, I'll be talking to you about the program and answering some of your most burning questions about presenting.
In this video, I'll give you the secret to the most common problem people bring to me: overcoming your fear of public speaking.
